History

In 1838, Charleston Township was created in Kalamazoo County when the eastern half of Comstock Township was split.

The township hall burned over 30 years ago, destroying many historical documents and township records. The township hall was rebuilt in 1962, and continues to house the township offices, meeting rooms, and historical records.

If you have any information, photographs, or resources to share to help develop the history of our township, please contact the township offices at: (269) 665-7805; or by e-mailing Township Clerk Linda Kramer at charclerk@charlestontownship.org
